7 Ways to Help You Start Your Day When You Feel Down!

When I find it difficult to get out of bed in the morning, whatever the reason may be, I’ve developed this routine to make it easier for me to start my day with a positive attitude rather than to carry my tired morning mood around with me for the rest of the day.
1) I sleep walk to the bathroom soak two pads of cotton wool in ice cold water go back to bed, lie flat on my back, place the pads on my closed eyes, I focus on my in-breath and out-breath and I relax. This takes about 5 minutes. The cold pads on my eyes make sure that I don’t fall off back to sleep. In fact they wake me up. I can actually open my eyes wide open after that!
2) Next thing I do is this exercise with an open window: I stand up stretch my arms up straight palms open, I breathe in through my nose and with a fast movement I jerk my arms down fast, elbows tight to my waist, arms bent with my hands in a fist grip close to my shoulders in front as I breathe out a fast strong exhale through my mouth.
I repeat this movement fast, inhale through nose arms stretched up palms open, exhale through mouth with a hah, bend arms down tight hands in a fist close to my chest either side. I repeat this at least 10x in fast continuing movements up and down nose-inhale mouth open-exhale hah. This really gets my heart pumping and I feel energized.
3) I then stand straight feet shoulder width apart, raise my arms half way and keep myself as loose as possible, I turn my upper torso to the left as far as I can, my head will also turn, looking far left with my eyes, I allow both arms to swing naturally to the left all the way elbows loose, and then I turn completely to the right in the same way, let my arms swing, and my head turns eyes as well, I swing to the left and I swing to the right. I breathe in and I exhale each time I turn to each side. With each turn I feel my body getting looser and I am able to turn more easily.
The important thing here is for my whole body to be totally relaxed including my arms. The only thing that remains fixed are my feet, standing on my feet and legs straight. With this I am loosening my spine allowing the energy to flow. I repeat this 10x to each side. I sometimes do this exercise up to 100x when I have time and I allow my hands to tap my body at each turn wherever they land, hips, side or up to the shoulders. This really wakes me up and gets rid of stiffness.
4) The next thing I do is to stand straight feet just a little apart. I stretch my arms up straight breathe in and I bend down to touch my toes keeping my knees straight. I do this at a slow pace. I inhale when I’m up and exhale through my mouth all my tiredness out as I bend down with arms stretched, as far as I can go.
5) To end the exercise above in a healthy way I stand straight and I put my hands on my waist, head down I inhale and bend backwards as far as I can go and I exhale through my mouth in a loud long haaahhh upwards. I am bending my back backwards shoulders back and head back face up to the sky eyes wide open and mouth wide open as I exhale. With this I have completely loosened my back in every direction. The energy is really flowing now.
6) Now I do what in yogi terms is called the Fire Breath. I do this 10x. This is how it goes. Standing or sitting I breathe in and out through my nose, mouth closed as fast as I can. Short quick breaths pumping in and out fast. The 11th breath will be slow deep breathing in and slow breathing out through the nose. I personally do this more than 10x, I have the experience, but you have to be careful here that you don’t get dizzy. If you feel dizzy then stop and take a deep slow breath. With practice you can do more.
7) Now I’m ready for my shower which I take as hot as I can bear it, scrubbing my body with a loofah and when I’m ready I turn the tap on cold, completely ice cold, I make sure my whole body is soaked with cold water as long as I can take it. During the summer when the water is not that cold I like to rub my whole body including my face with ice cubes.
Et voila, I feel good now and I’m ready for my morning coffee and to meet the world with a smile.
The whole complete procedure takes me not more than 15 minutes.
You can also choose one or two of the exercises that are to your liking and needs and to suit your time allowance.
Exercises (2) (3) and (6) are very good to do at any time during the day when you feel you need to be energized, before a meeting, a presentation or an important project.
The whole idea is to get your heart pumping faster for energy, and your energy to flow through your body to be relaxed. When you’re tense, as per the law of Attraction, tension will attract tension and you’ll be at odds with everyone. When you’re relaxed your energy will flow easily and everything else will flow easily for you. These few minutes to yourself every morning will put you in a better mood to start your day happy with yourself and happy with the world.
